The PHE Canada Podcast, Episode 3: All Gender Physical and Health Education
Welcome to The PHE Canada Podcast! In the third episode of our podcast, we speak with Equity and Inclusion Consultant, Andrea Barrow, from Limestone District School Board. Alongside our incredible host, Josh Read, Andrea shares her experiences with supporting educators in the classroom and with curriculum around human rights and how she consults and works alongside administrators to develop and implement site specific plans to create safer and culturally responsive learning environments.
At Limestone District School Board, all gender physical education in high school is at the forefront of a lot of the work that Andrea and her colleagues are trying to do. There’s a whole group of students that are not feeling safe to be in physical education and physical activity spaces which often leads to them not taking these classes in high school. The solution: “moving and shifting towards offering an all gendered space”. When we adjust and adapt to the needs of students, they all have an opportunity to participate fully.
Tune into this episode to learn more about the steps that Andrea Barrow and the Limestone District School Board are taking to create environments of acceptance and inclusion, making spaces more accessible while navigating barriers, how educators and schools are working together, and much more!
