About the PHE Canada Review and Endorsement Program

The PHE Canada Review and Endorsement Program is a rigorous certification process that ensures your resources and programming are vetted and of the highest quality across four (4) integral areas – Content, Accuracy and Readability, Methods, and Designs and Illustrations. Our staff works with your team to ensure the review aligns with your resource and programming objectives, and within that context, reflects highest standards of today’s pedagogy, usability, relevance, and application.  To date, our team has reviewed and endorsed over 25 different resources for over 10 organizations across Canada.

There are three services available within the Resource Review and Endorsement Program:

1. RESOURCE REVIEW

The Resource Review includes the establishment of an expert review committee, comprised of field experts in the related resource subject and target audience. The committee will review the resource's content, pedagogical alignment, accuracy, readability, methodology, and design, providing feedback and recommendations in a comprehensive report.

The report will also provide required revisions. Here are a few examples of areas where feedback is provided:

  • Content: Does the program/resource support learning expectations for the specified grades (or age range) in the Physical Education and/or Health Education curriculum of your province?
  • Accuracy and Readability: Does the language style assist the student/participant to understand concepts related to the topic and/or subject?
  • Design and Illustrations: Do the pictures and illustrations depict people using safe practices that would be consistent with the safety guidelines in your province?
  • Methods: Would most schools in your province have the necessary facilities to implement this resource effectively?

2. PHE CANADA ENDORSEMENT

Resources that have completed the review phase with approval are eligible to receive formal endorsement from PHE Canada. Such an endorsement certifies the quality of the resource to those in the education sector. Resources that have been endorsed by PHE Canada are able to display the PHE Canada Endorsement Seal on all related materials and receive promotional entitlements and recognition through PHE Canada’s network as an endorsed resource.

3. DEVELOPMENT OF CURRICULUM LINKS

School-based resources become more relevant, user-friendly, and accepted when they are developed with the curriculum in mind and when they clearly outline how they are able to support the achievement of a teacher’s specific curriculum outcomes. Through this service, PHE Canada will construct a curriculum chart indicating which outcomes can be achieved with the resource.
