Knowledge Sharing: Ways to Engage and Inspire
Once your Student Chapter is activated, there are many ways to share knowledge and inspire your peers. Here are three key approaches to consider:
Virtual Event Ideas
- Online Workshop Series – Host short sessions on topics like physical literacy, inclusive PE practices, mental health in schools, or creative movement activities.
- Virtual Panel Discussions – Invite experts, alumni, and faculty to discuss current issues or best practices in PHE.
- Interactive Webinars with Q&A – Offer hands-on demonstrations or case studies followed by a question-and-answer session.
- Virtual Game or Activity Demonstrations – Teach and share new PA games or exercises that peers can implement in schools.
- Podcast or Video Series – Interview PHE leaders or share educational tips and reflections on quality PE programming.
- Virtual Roundtables – Small-group discussions where students reflect on challenges in teaching PHE and share strategies.
- Web-Based Competitions or Challenges – For example, a “Step Challenge” or “Wellness Challenge” that peers can track and discuss online.
- Live-Streamed Skill Demonstrations – Show how to teach a particular activity, skill, or lesson plan virtually, allowing others to follow along.
In-Person Professional Development & Social Events
- Peer-Led Workshops – Lead sessions on topics your peers identify as a need to support their professional growth and address gaps in their teacher training.
- Faculty-Led Mini-Seminars – Invite a faculty member or PHE Champion to run short in-person seminars on pedagogical strategies.
- Active Learning Labs – Hands-on sessions where participants practice and learn strategies, tools, and activities that increase daily physical activity in classrooms.
- Mentorship & Panel Sessions – Organize small-group mentorship circles or larger panel discussions with PHE leaders, experienced teachers, alumni, and faculty to provide guidance, share practical insights, and answer questions about careers and professional growth in PHE.
- Collaborative Resource-Building – Have participants co-create activity banks, inclusive lesson plans, or wellness toolkits for pre-service teachers.
- Micro-Conference or Symposium – Organize a half-day event with multiple short sessions, including presentations, workshops, and networking.
- Walk & Talks – Small-group walks around campus to discuss PHE topics, wellness strategies, or just connect socially while being active.
- Student Union Club Showcases / Info Booths – Set up a table or booth at your university’s club fair to recruit members, share resources, and promote your chapter.
- Wellness & Activity Days – Plan themed events like ‘Movement Monday’ or ‘Wellness Wednesday,’ featuring interactive activities, physical activity sessions, and strategies for mental health and stress management.
- Community Fundraising Initiatives - Develop a partnership with a local organization or school to raise fund to support their community (shoe drive).
Facilitated Leadership Opportunities
Engaging your PHE Chapter to facilitate leadership activities within your Bachelor of Education program allows you to grow as a leader while empowering your peers. Here are examples of opportunities your chapter can pursue:
- Lead interactive activities during Mental Health Week or back-to-school events to promote well-being and engagement.
- Collaborate with other campus societies or clubs to host larger-scale learning or fundraising events supporting local organizations.
- Mentor first- or second-year students on integrating physical activity, wellness, and inclusion into their teaching practice.
- Coordinate and implement inclusive events that advance teacher and student well-being, accessibility, equity, anti-racism, and truth and reconciliation initiatives.
- Facilitate reflection and leadership debriefs after events or workshops to consolidate learning and insights.
- Organize faculty or guest speaker panels featuring educators, alumni, or community leaders to share experiences and best practices.
- Lead collaborative curriculum or lesson planning workshops for designing inclusive, engaging PE/HE lessons.
- Coordinate peer mentorship programs connecting senior and newer pre-service teachers.
- Run advocacy campaigns raising awareness about physical activity, mental health, or social justice in schools.
- Plan inter-university collaborative events such as joint workshops, challenges, PD sessions, or physical activity tournaments or games.
- Lead community service or engagement projects promoting health, physical activity, and social impact.
- Develop peer resource guides including activity banks, well-being tips, and lesson plan templates.
