PHE Canada is providing financial support to schools and PHE Champions across the country to advance and increase access to quality physical and health education programming and healthy learning environments for all children and youth in Canada.

By investing directly in school-centered PHE programs, healthy school initiatives, teacher education, and future leaders, we ensure schools and the PHE Community have the knowledge, tools, and capacity to equip each and every child and youth with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to lead resilient, active, and healthy lives.

Empowerment Grants Banner

The PHE Empowerment Grants Program

The PHE Empowerment Grants Program is designed to empower physical and health education teachers and healthy school champions and build capacity in school communities to ensure equitable access to the benefits of physical and health education and healthy learning environments for all students, in all communities, across Canada. Eligible recipients include educators, school system administrators, and students (with a staff sponsor). With Healthy, Active Schools Programming and Professional Development funding streams available, the PHE Empowerment Grants aim to enhance K-12 physical and health education, student and staff well-being, healthy school environments,  and student engagement. PHE Empowerment Grants


EDI Graduate Student Research Bursary

Guided by the PHE Canada Research Council, the EDI Graduate Student Research Bursary will support the recruitment and retention of equity-deserving scholars in physical and health education graduate studies and research. The scholarship will normally provide funds for one (1) graduate student per year. Projects must be led by a graduate student in a Canadian postsecondary institution. Successful applicants will normally be awarded a bursary of $1,000.

Margaret Eaton School Legacy Fund

Established by John Byl, with funds from Bob Young (in honour of his great-grandmother who founded the Margaret Eaton School), the Margaret Eaton School Legacy Fund provides bursaries to aspiring female PHE teachers, as well as those establishing their early footholds in this profession, and equip these women to be great physical and health educators.

Previous Funding Opportunities

Access to Action Grant was a national granting program, funded by Sport Canada, focused on empowering school communities to provide inclusive and meaningful sport and physical activity opportunities for equity deserving student populations before, during, and/or after school. Please note that the Access to Action Grant application is not currently available for 2023-2024 school year.
