The Margaret Eaton School Legacy Fund provides women on the pathway to becoming physical and health education teachers with a $1,000 bursary to support their post-secondary education.
Application Period
The application period opens in the fall each year and closes on the date noted on the website. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. The 2024-2025 application period is now closed and the next application period will open in October 2025.
Number of Funded Projects
Currently, the program aims to offer one (1) bursary each year, in the amount of $1,000. All completed applications will be reviewed and evaluated, with the top ranked application being selected for funding.
Eligibility - Who May Apply?
In alignment with the legacy of the Margaret Eaton School, the Legacy Fund bursaries are available to women on their pathway to becoming physical and health educators. Applicants must be registered in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution in a related physical and health education undergraduate or graduate degree program. This may include, but not limited to, Education, Physical Education, Health Education, Human Kinetics, Kinesiology, Health Sciences, or another related program. Recipient cannot be a previous recipient of the Margaret Eaton School Legacy Fund Bursary.
Essential Considerations & Required Information
- Only one application per individual can be submitted.
- Applicants must be registered in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution in a related physical and health education undergraduate or graduate degree program. Applicant will need to submit proof of registration.
- Only fully completed applications will be reviewed. Applications received after noted deadline will not be considered.
- Successful applicants can expect to be notified and receive funding by January 2024. Grant funding must be spent by June 30th of that school year.
- Successful applicants must provide PHE Canada with an Impact Report prior to June 30th of that school year. A survey will be sent to recipients later in the school year.
- PHE Canada may reach out to verify the provided information or request any additional information.
Selection Criteria
The information provided in the application form and supporting documents must demonstrate that:
- The Applicant is eligible for the Margaret Eaton School Legacy Bursary.
- The Applicant demonstrates a need for the bursary and articulates how the bursary will support their pathway to becoming a PHE teacher.
- The Applicant demonstrates a strong passion for becoming a PHE teacher and indicates future aspirations that will have a positive impact on the PHE Community.
Selection Process
Each application will undergo a thorough evaluation process. An application that clearly articulates and aligns with the criteria specified above in the Selection Criteria significantly enhances its likelihood of being awarded a grant.
What can I expect if my application is accepted?
If you are a successful recipient of the Margaret Eaton School Legacy Fund Bursary, a PHE Canada staff will notify the recipient via the email address provided. Once details are confirmed/approved, PHE Canada will disseminate the funding to the successful recipient. In April, PHE Canada will email recipient(s) a template of the Impact Report that recipients must respond to prior to June 30th of the calendar year.
