As part of 2024 At My Best Play Days, PHE Canada is pleased to announce that 5 deserving schools have been selected to receive the At My Best grant of $1,000 each. This funding will advance various initiatives focusing on physical activity, healthy eating, and emotional well-being within the schools. One teacher shared their plans for their funding:
We will spend our grant on two streams of activity, one focused on physical activity on the land, and one focused on social-emotional learning.
For the first stream we will purchase student equipment in support of our forest school activities. This will allow us to be increasingly outside and support children to learn in an active way. We have found that just being outside has huge benefits for children in terms of learning and emotional regulation.
For our other stream we will focus on social-emotional well-being through art and drama. We will establish a lunchtime art club and purchase puppets for the club. Puppet play for children in the primary school years is helpful for confidence building, and often helps kids to navigate through feelings and challenging social situations.
We wish to congratulate the following recipient schools:
-
LaSalle Senior Elementary - QC
-
A.S. Matheson School - BC
-
Westmount Community School - SK
-
East St. Margaret’s Elementary School - NS
-
Grey Mountain Primary School - YT
These schools have exemplified an exceptional commitment to their student's well-being, and we applaud their ongoing efforts to promote holistic well-being among their students.
To celebrate the 2024 At My Best Play Days, personalized At My Best activity kits were distributed to 1,089 students. These kits serve as a fantastic resource to keep the students active and engaged in healthy behaviors during the school year and the upcoming summer. Each kit includes a skipping rope, bean bags, a ball, and an activity card, encouraging students to embrace movement and have fun while doing so.
