About

Youth Council

The PHE Canada Youth Council is currently comprised of 6 students from across Canada, each bringing their unique life and school experiences to the healthy growth of the Youth Council and all its projects. With the support of PHE Canada, this year’s project has been to collaboratively design, develop, and deliver a virtual event as moderators for youth in grades 9-12/CEGEP across Canada, to connect and share ideas about the current and future state of physical and health education.

See the list below to meet some of our Youth Council members*.

What are you passionate about?

Two passions that I developed at a young age and that have stayed with me my whole life are opening up and accepting all opportunities and a future career passion for me are skiing and cooking.

Why did you join the Youth Council?

I joined the Youth Council because it seemed like an interesting opportunity that I could learn from and possibly take those skills into my future career. I am a young student with strong interpersonal skills and loads of experience in a plethora of fields for my age. I believe due to that I could bring an interesting, yet much needed, opinion to the conversations in the Youth Council.

What do you hope to learn and take away from being a part of the Youth Council?

I am mostly interested in hearing the opinions of others and using my own insights to build upon them.

I wish to learn with all the other Council members how to collaborate to bring about beneficial change on a bigger scale than I could have done alone.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about helping people to the best of my abilities and that is one reason why I'm studying in healthcare right now! Also, another part of my passion is sports. Others call me the multi-sporty guy.

Why did you join the Youth Council?

As mentioned, helping people is my primary passion and sport is secondary. When I saw the Youth Council on the PHE Canada website, I joined because I thought it would combine both of my passions: of helping youth in the sport world! I also want to advocate on behalf of youth and make their voice heard.

What do you hope to learn and take away from being a part of the Youth Council?

I'm hoping to expand my public speaking skills nationally and my take away from Youth Council is being open to the diversity of opinions and ideas by other members.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about fostering the importance of embracing holistic health and wellness. I am an avid reader, dedicated writer, and enthusiastic STEM student, with a love for sports like basketball and badminton.

Why did you join the Youth Council?

Joining the Youth Council has connected me to like-minded and inspiring individuals from across Canada who share a passion for enhancing physical and health education. I wanted to learn more about leading a healthy lifestyle and to share this knowledge with others by being part of their journey to make physical and health education inclusive and accessible to every student.

As a member of the Youth Council, I am eager to leverage and cultivate my creativity, collaboration, and communication skills. I hope to share my experience in physical and health education classrooms and blend my love of helping others, open-minded personality, and broad academic background to promote a balanced and healthy lifestyle for youth nationwide.

What do you hope to learn and take away from being a part of the Youth Council?

In my third year on the council, I aspire to expand my leadership and interpersonal skills, learn from and connect with diverse voices, and help make a positive difference in physical and health education to ultimately boost the overall health and happiness of students in Canada.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about sustainability, making physical activity accessible to everyone, and educating others about the benefits of being physically active. I love the outdoors, my dog, and trying new things. My three favourite sports are skiing, rowing, and volleyball.

Why did you join the Youth Council?

I joined the youth council as an International Baccalaureate student who is advocating for the importance of physical activity opportunities to be open to all grades throughout the school day. As a member of the Youth Council, I want to open new opportunities for others' voices to be heard.

What do you hope to learn and take away from being a part of the Youth Council?

I hope to meet other like-minded individuals who are also passionate about physical activity.
