PHE Canada’s Physical and Health Education (PHE) Empowerment Grants help to empower schools to provide every student with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to lead resilient, active, and healthy lives.
The PHE Empowerment Grants Program is an annual grant initiative aimed at supporting PHE Champions and school communities across Canada to access resources and information that will help them to:
- Enhance student health and wellbeing
- Create healthy school environments
- Advance learning in the areas of physical and/or health education
- Develop initiatives that amplify and centre diverse, equitable, and inclusive programs, practices, and leadership
- Provide learning opportunities for educators and future leaders
- Support equity, diversity and inclusion in research
- Share success stories and wise practices with other school communities
- Continue to build knowledge and capacity in PHE priority areas, including dance, outdoor education, sexual health education, among others.
The funds supporting these grants have come from the Canadian PHE Community and will be invested back into this community, to support the PHE Canada's strategic priorities.
In-School Initiatives Stream
Applications are invited from all students, individuals, schools, organizations, communities, and other groups that can demonstrate the need, value, and potential contribution of an initiative to school-based physical and health learning; student and staff health and well-being; creating healthy school environments; educator capacity-building; amplifying student voice; and/or diversity, inclusion, and equity. Initiatives must be implemented in a K-12 Canadian school or school board.
Eligibility and other grant details are in the process of being finalized and will be shared in Fall 2022.
Researcher Stream: Research Council Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Graduate Student Research Scholarship
Applications for the PHE Canada Research Council Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Graduate Student Researcher Scholarship will also open in October 2022.

The scholarship will normally provide funds for one graduate student per year. Projects must be led by a graduate student in a Canadian postsecondary institution. Successful applicants will normally be awarded a scholarship of $1,000.
Applications will be accepted in fall 2022. Follow us on social media, or join our email list for grant application updates.
