Kindergarten Outdoor Play in the Sun, Rain, and Snow!
This promising practice highlights a Kindergarten outdoor play program aimed to transform the program from highly-structured, teacher-directed, indoor activities to student-led play in the outdoor environment. The school created and implemented a plan to begin every day outside in nature. Through outdoor play, movement, and connecting to nature, students and staff are calmer, happier, and healthier. Additional benefits included: students separate from their parents feeling safe and comfortable, parents are more comfortable talking to educators, significantly fewer behaviour problems throughout the day, and students are establishing positive relationships with peers and educators.
