Mary Ott, a skilled researcher with over 10 years of experience in special education, talks about the tough conversations that occur between schools and parents about children's mental health. She talks about how she navigated seemingly “no win” situations and called upon local resources to help connect with the student’s family and illustrates some of the issues with the story of a failing grade one student.

She speaks candidly about the challenges she faced when working with both schools and families and offers words of encouragement for those doing the same.
