Physical activity and school engagement in youth
Research in brief
This document briefly describes the results of a systematic review conducted in 2017 looking at the effect of physical activity on school engagement and therefore academic performance. Best practices for implementing physical activity in the classroom alongside facts regarding the importance of school engagement are also provided.
Some key findings:
- As students participate in more physical activity, they become more engaged in school.
- Both children and adolescents benefit from physical activity, adolescents benefit more.
